Message from the President

The New York Insurance Association, Inc. (NYIA) is an organization that traces its roots back to 1882. The new NYIA was formed in 1997 by the unification of the former New York Insurance Alliance, founded in 1882, and the New York State Insurance Association, founded in 1942. Interestingly, both Associations' charter members were mutual insurers, the former mainly small cooperatives and the latter larger mutuals. As the industry changed, it became apparent that stocks, mutuals and cooperatives had far more issues in common than they did differences. Stock companies began joining both Associations and it eventually became apparent that New York’s property/casualty insurance industry would be best served by a single voice for the domestic industry. That voice is now NYIA.

Because our focus is solely New York, we are able to provide our members with timely and relevant information on legislation and regulation. In addition, our large membership roster helps us provide those services at a dues rate that provides great value to companies large and small who view New York as a primary market. If you are not yet a NYIA member, I encourage you to browse the public areas of our site. We’ll be happy to send you samples of the information available in the Members Only section.
